The History of CBC

The History of Community Baptist Church

1954 – Berea Baptist Church was born; through a process which God brings about the birth of a new church.  We’ve always heard that the church is not the building but the church is The People!  That’s a good thing, because there was no building here in April 1954, just a plot of land and a few godly people with vision.  Their leader was Vernon Fowler – the first pastor of the church.  In July 1954 – enough money was borrowed to purchase a church building.

1960 – The Church name was changed from Berea BC to Ball Street BC – while Marvin Bennett was the pastor.  For the next three years – there was no baptistery in the church – so baptism took place in several places: NSBC, the river and the lake.

1964 Pastor Everette Young made a baptistery from materials that were donated – the 1st two people that were baptized were Pastor Young’s own children.

In the late 1960’s (1967-1970) Lynn New was the pastor of Ball St.  During his time here, Roland Burnett led a revival.  The revival meetings were scheduled to last one week, but because the Lord moved so mightily; the revival lasted 21 days.  During that revival a lot of people were saved and the church grew a lot during that time.  This time of the church was a big time of growth for the church.

1999 – While Carl Elder was interim pastor, the church voted to change the name to Community Baptist Church.  The old “barracks” style building was demolished and a new building was constructed on the same property.  While the building was being constructed, the church met in the elementary school close to the church site. In March 2000, the new building construction was completed and the new church was opened debt-free.

2003- The church voted to purchase the adjacent lot to the west of the church.  This property will allow for future expansion and growth.

2008 - The Church voted to start providing two worship services on Sunday morning.

2009- In August Scott Marsh, our Long time Pastor, Resigned to pursue other ministry ventures he felt the lord was leading him to. On December 27th we called Martin “Chip” Parmer to be our new Pastor. He and His Wife, Clarissa, and Three Children; Anaissa, Andrew and Ariel have joined with our church and we look forward to the Lord’s work in this New Year and Beyond.
